Afghanistan, Kabul, June 14, 2014
A young female official of todays presidential elections walks past a poster of Amir Kror Suri (aka Jahan Pahlawan) a legendary character and leader in Pashtun national history, (allegedly he was a governor and the first poet in Pashtu and died in the year 771 A.D.) After closing their voting station and counting the votes she brings the sealed box from the female side to a room in the Char Khalai Wazir Abad School where the Independent Election Commission (IEC) will pick the boxes up later for counting in a central depot in Kabul. Today's second round presidential elections should enable the nation's first democratic transfer of power. Karzai is not allowed to run for another term in office after already serving two. Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani (Ahmadzai) are competing in today's run-off after receiving the most votes in the first round on April 5th.
