Afghanistan, Herat, March 14, 2016
Afghan men gather on a field outside Herat city to commemorate the Herat uprising of March 1979. Around 24,000 Afghans are believed to have been killed in Herat in a couple of days at the start of the Soviet war in Afghanistan. Today some carry pictures of killed relatives and shout among others "Death to the Shuravi (Soviet soldiers), America, Taliban, Pakistan, Iran, France..."
